Slant

Hopewriters Day 11 Slant⠀

I scoop up fresh whipped cream and with a flick of the spoon drop a dollop on some warm buttery shortbread. Next I load it with sugared strawberries and garnish it with a green mint leaf. Handing it to my son in law I decide to leave the dishes and sit down and join in on the conversation. ⠀

What began as a discussion about their new large TV made its way into headaches and astigmatisms. ⠀

My son in law began to explain to us how his astigmatism causes the light to split and spread bending in all directions. In an astigmatism the lens is distorted which causes the light to refract or slant. At certain times this can make things difficult to see.⠀

I started thinking on this, how out of distortions or dents in the lens we see things at a slant. ⠀

And although I don’t have an astigmatism,I began wondering what things I am seeing not quite straight and what the dents in my soul are doing to my point of view. ⠀

So I start talking to Jesus again and asking Him to be gentle and show me truth. ⠀

And I am finding that just being next to You, Jesus in the asking of it all,⠀
is medicine to my soul. Your presence, like the the smell of fresh baked cookies, makes me feel at home and slowly I can let down my guard down and welcome Your words to sink in. ⠀

And like viewing through a new lens, things begin to look different. You help me see my troubles at a new angle. No longer subject to the filter of my dents, they are take a new beautiful direction. I don’t have to worry anymore. My all knowing and forever loving Father is in charge and taking care of me.⠀

I stuff a forkful of strawberry shortcake in my mouth and the whipped cream tastes like heaven.⠀
