Word Count

Hopewriters Day 5 Word Count ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Climbing the steps to the third floor of the old stone building, I bustle past other students with heavy backpacks and glazed sleepy looks in their eyes. The English department was full of us deep thinkers with rag socks and Birkenstock’s who peered out of toroise shell framed glasses into a world we wanted to paint with words. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I remember being told time and time again by my professors less is more and that a really good writer can say things in a few well chosen words. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
To this day that thought hovers over me when I write like a well meaning parent. I am not sure that sticking to a word count is always the way to go but we all know words count. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Words have the ability shift ideas and mold lives. Words can bring life or death and so they really matter. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Maybe this is why this Hopewriter challenge is hard for me. I feel the weight of my words and it can be difficult to share them. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
When I can’t find words I think of Jesus the Word. He spoke his words with purpose and never wasted one. His words are medicine to my soul. They bring light to the dark hidden places in my heart and do their deep work. His words speak quietly but echo loud with love. Let my words be His for they are the ones that count for now and forever. ⠀⠀
