Hopewriters Day 12(!!!)Publish

The last couple of weeks my husband has been completely immersed in a new project -cleaning out and organizing the garage. From painting walls and the floor to buying new organizing shelves our garage has gone from a complete disaster to a beautiful workshop and space to be in. The reason this is so extraordinary is that for all 26 years of our married life he has not cared about the garage let alone wanted to organize it. I cannot explain the change nor will I attempt to but it is new (and wonderful!) to me.

One of the biggest differences for me is that now I can leave the garage open at times during the day. I used to be ashamed of the mess but now it feels ok if someone were to see in. Instead of welcoming friends in the front door, I can also bring them through the garage without worry of them tripping over things.

The challenge word today is, ‘publish’,what happens when writers make their work public. Like our clean garage it’s writing that is open for all to see.

The problem is, writing isn’t as clear cut as the garage, and it’s hard to know when it is ready for the public eye. Truth be told, it’s pretty vulnerable, because what I might deem shined up and ready might be frowned upon by someone who matters.

But I am learning that unlike my husband’s latest project,
writing is about opening up the garage door when there is still a mess in there.

Inviting others into my journey and processing it in public is the road I am heading down. Since I am not sure my writing will ever be good enough, it’s something I am giving a try.

We all need companionship in the craziness of life and if we are Instagram perfect we create worlds that aren’t authentic. Real change happens when real things are brought into the light; when my raw meets yours and somehow we know we aren’t alone in it all.

Jesus meets me like that and asks me to do the same. His love in my mess is where the beauty is, and where my soul is fed.

So, I really hope to publish a book some day. But in the mean time I will⠀
keep writing and inviting others to come in the messy garage way.
