So Long Old Cat

Loneliness slinks in the back door
Like a skinny grey cat
And settles in, close
For a long afternoon nap.

Although this cat is known to me,
And lately, visit frequently
My need for companionship is left unmet
Be her smoke colored fur
And rhythmic, low purr.

Without a hint of a conversation
She sleeps. Her quiet breathing
Ushers in my need for company,
For someone who knows
What my heart needs, for someone
To
See
Me.

Warm beam of light spreads
Across my desk, like a hand
From heaven and I remember You.

Your name is El Roi,
The God who sees;
You are here and
Will never leave me,

Your Word falls fresh
On my deepest place
And slowly, fills up
That lonely space.

I look down at that purring cat
Snuggled close in my lap
And wake him
From his afternoon nap.

So long old cat,
Here’s the door
I won’t be needing you, anymore!

Genesis 16:13
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
