Choose Rest

LAC Unit 3- saliboats-1

Choose Rest

By Susie Teramura

Stewing, like a pot

Of chili on

The stove,

Over a decision that

I just could

Not seem

To make.

It wasn’t a big

Dilemma or

Even something life changing,

Just a simple, everyday, decision

That somehow

Had me

Stuck.

So I whispered

A prayer under my breath

And asked Jesus

What to do.

And then it happened

(and I love it when it happens.)

His voice came clear and

Firm and

Spoke right

To my heart.

He said, “choose rest.”

Hitting me like

Cold mountain air

Awaking me from

My dizzy-eyed stupor.

Ok, I thought,

Let’s look at

This again.

And all of a sudden,

It was plain.

The way forward

Was clear,

And I felt free.

I had permission

To choose rest

The funny thing is

This message has

Lingered and

Hung around in

My head for a while

And has become my

Go to

When I can’t decide.

I am learning I

Am free to

Choose rest because

Of what Jesus

Has done for me

On that cross

On the hill.

Spreading out his arms

He covered me with

His blood

And love and grace

And took care

Of everything,

And now

I don’t have to

Earn a thing.

I am already

Valuable, loved,

And have purpose

I have a place

Next to Him.

And the best part is

I am finding

Treasure there,

In the rest.

It’s the place

I can hear

Him best.

When my heart is

Quiet and I draw near

Confusing things

Seem to clear.

Thank You Jesus

You know best

And for teaching me

To choose rest.

Psalm 62:5

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him

Psalm 116:5

Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you

-.

Matthew 11:28-30 The Message (MSG)

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Big Bold Blooms 1 Final Painting Step 1

chalk-large-paintingimg_5116

I am still finishing the Big Bold Blooms class. This is the beginning  of the last painting which is the largest painting I have ever tried. We had to gesso or paint the canvas with an undercoat. Then we had to draw the flowers with chalk three times flipping the direction of the canvas each time. I just thought to share these beginning steps as it is kind of fun to see what transformations the painting makes!

This New Year

img_0155

This New Year

By Susie Teramura

The doorbell rings,

Pizza shaped

Amazon box

Lies on

The step.

Shutting the door

A gust of

Frozen air

Lifts my bangs.

My heart

Sighs heavy,

It’s my new calendar,

With colorful pictures of

Snowmen,

Valentine’s hearts,

Fourth of July fireworks,

Picnics and pumpkins

Ending with

A majestic, green tree,

Like the one I just

Took down and

Left on the curb.

Running my hands

Over the glossy pages

Smelling the newness

Like a textbook

On the first day

Of school

I breathe deep

Looking at those white

Empty squares,

Row after row,

A new year

Fresh and clean

Untouched,

Like a

Blanket of snow

Fallen quiet

While all the

World sleeps

And my mind

Wanders

And wonders,

What is ahead?

What will fill those

Hours, minutes, and days?

So much unknown,

So much

New, clean, white,

Paper to mess up.

Leaves me with

The desire

To pause,

Take a tuck in time,

To get myself ready,

Like setting the table

Before a fancy dinner

I want to be ready,

And not miss

A beat,

But the only beat I hear

Is my heart

That won’t stop.

And like the ticks

Of a clock

Time, it doesn’t stop.

There is no pause

Between Dec 31 and Jan 1.

It’s just another day,

And yet its not,

A new year begins.

I find my pen,

My favorite one,

And begin writing our

Crazy, messy, schedule in

Square by square,

And I talk to You,

Father of time.

“I messing it up

Already,

This new year,

I am not ready,

And what will it hold,

What hard thing is

Waiting around

The corner?”

But your

Presence comes

Quiet and

Settles in

Soft and steady,

“I’m here and

Will be

There too.

There is not

One hour,

Minute, or second

That will pass without

Me in it,

And I am

The Game Changer.”

And so I start

Thinking as

I am writing

Down Birthdays

About You

And how

There is

No one like

You.

You are the

Most

High

God

You are

The

Most;

The most kind

Most faithful

Most forgiving

Most wise

You are

The happiest,

The funniest,

The most creative.

You have the

Most power,

And the

Best ideas.

You are always

True and

Never wrong

You,

All of You

With me.

And I start

To see,

This really is

A game changer

Because You are

The playmaker

And I am just

Along for the ride,

Safely tucked under

Your arm,

And carried

Close to your heart.

I find a tack and

A space on

Our kitchen wall

And hang up

The New Year,

Pages waiting

To be filled.

The sun

Pours through

The window

And casts a

Warm and

Hopeful Glow

I smile soft.

That’s just

You

Loving on me

I know.

Psalm 148: 14

And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the Lord.

Isaiah 40:11

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Revelation 21; 5

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Jeremiah 29:11The Message (MSG)

I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

365 Day Art Class- Elephant with Clock

fullsizerender

Hi- 🙂 I am happy to be able to post finally!!  I am taking another year long art class with Carla Sonheim again. It is called “365 Activate your Art Brain” a video a day. She is sending us very short videos each day with quotes or prompts to get our creative juices flowing. On this day she pulled two words out of a hat; clock and elephant. We had to come up with something that incorporated them both. This was what I came up with. 🙂 Hope to be able to post some of these from time to time!
