Waiting on March

color class day 1 -1

Waiting on March

By Susie Teramura

Heavy snowflakes

Blanket branches,

And dust

Bulbs, that are making

Their early

Spring debut.

It melts quickly though,

Water trickling,

Slowly soaking,

The brown earth,

And in a few short days

Temperatures climb,

Jackets come off,

And feet find

Their way into

Flip-flops again.

It‘s March,

The in-between month.

The month of

Ups and downs,

Of roaring lion winds,

And sweet, baby lamb breezes.

It’s the month of waiting,

Of the, not yet,

Of the, it’s coming.

March has never

Been my

Favorite month.

It’s too indecisive,

Too much teasing and

Straddling of the

Seasons for my taste,

But  the truth is,

I am finding

It’s the season

I am in too.

That You, God,

Have placed me here

In an

In- between place,

The place of

Not yet,

And You are

Showing me

That there is something

Beautiful here,

That this

Long, grey, wait,

Is growth disguised,

And that the surprise,

Is on its way,

For when March

Has done its work

in me

Spring will be

In a garden of color.

My heart

will be made new

And I will be

Beautiful, like You.

So all this to say,

My heart is softening

Towards March,

And letting go

Of the need to

Get there, right now,

And learning to be ok

In the not yet.

To enjoy

the journey,

And accept

the process,

Knowing that

You are present

In the slowing,

and waiting,

Master of

the unseen growing.

You have a perfect

plan for me

And are working

it out

so carefully.

So I will hold

On to You

till March

is through

You promise

You are making

All things new.

 Psalm 33:20

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Isaiah 30:15

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

Isaiah 64:4

Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him

  1. Yes, even in Florida, March is kind of in between (between not hot yet and oh boy the humidity will be back soon) – what a lovely illustration of where we are while we wait for His return or our going home…

    1. Hi Paris! I was thinking about that March in Virginia is probably quite different from a lot of other states! I am glad you could still relate though! Thanks for your encouragement – Happy that Spring is on its way!! xo

  2. Susie,
Love that we are neighbors at Bonnie’s and Holley’s today! Beautiful words about March {not a favorite month of mine either} but that it holds a beauty and promise of its own — a holding place before we launch full-blown into spring. I love how you invite us to open ourselves to its promise and really, to walk into the promises of God. Hour by hour, minute by minute, that’s what I’m holding onto. Love all the verses you included here today — they’re some of my favorites! xo

    1. Valerie! Yes how cool is that!! 🙂 I am glad I am not alone on my March feelings- I always want to like it but it is usually a hard month for me- things beginning before they the have ended. It somehow messes with me!! I am holding on with you! trusting our good Father who knows all and has a good plan that is in the works! sending hugs! 🙂

  3. Waiting can be so hard for me, too, Susie. But you give such hope here! Thank you for reminding me that “Master of unseen growing” is always present for us even through the waiting process. Isaiah 64:4 especially struck me today, too. It’s comforting that He acts on our behalf even during the waiting process, not just in the end result. He is ALWAYS with us, even in those waiting times when we wonder where He is staying. Yet He is not staying away from us, but He is walking beside us through the process. Thank you! Blessings and hugs to you!

    1. Trudi- you have such good words- Yes sometimes it feels like he is hidden or not acting on our behalf as much- but these verses tell us otherwise! It is a comfort that the waiting is not in vain that even in it things are happening beyond our understanding. Thanks Trudi- hugs your way!
