Never Alone

 Never Alone

By Susie Teramura

 Precious one,

Daughter of God,

Beloved and

One who is called,

His own,

Will never,

Be alone.

You will never

Be separated,

Or forgotten,

Not once have you been

Unseen or

Left on your own.

You will never be

Helpless, or hopeless

You will never have less

Than all of Him.

You will be

Escorted and carried,

 Held and cared for,

He and you,

Forever and for all time.

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:4-6

Big Bold Blooms

I finally  finished my first painting for Lynn Whipple’s Big Bold Blooms class, and wanted to share it with you all.  It has been really fun and challenging too. There are so many steps involved and it takes a lot patience and time! I am almost done with my second painting too, and hope to share that soon. I love flowers and spending time painting and studying them has been a pleasure! God is so good to give us these beautiful daily blessings!

Time for Tea

Time for Tea

By Susie Teramura

 Porcelain teacup

Painted pretty,

Tiny pink rosebuds

And a golden rim,

Tea kettle sings

 To the tune

I’m ready,

As slowly, and surely,

the water pours in,

And the tea bag

soaks …

And steeps ..

Until the water

Is tea.

Just what Your presence

Does to me.

Your love,

Pure water runs

Into my cup,

Swirls down below

And fills me up.

And I soak, and steep,

And sit very still,

Till every part

Of my cracked

Heart is filled.

And before I know it,

Or can even see

Joyful, delight!

In You, I am me.

2 Corinthians 3:18

…our lives gradually become brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.(Msg)

Eraser Elephants

In my class, Y is for Yellow with Carla Sonheim, we had to draw elephants using our erasers, for the letter E. We were to sketch them in and then use the eraser to shade and blend the pencil in. These were the two I did. It was very fun- Elephants are one of my favorite animals! 🙂

Painting Class

Painting Class

By Susie Teramura

Tuesday email inbox,

Art class assignment,

Waiting for me,

There she is

On Vimeo,

Smiling art teacher,

Dressed in bright clothes

With her glasses

Perched on her nose,

Stands in the

Flowered filled studio.

She begins to

Fill the canvas

Layer after layer,

With colors and shapes.

At first

I am bewildered,

How will this ever

Become the masterpiece

Advertised in the class

But after the fourth layer

Of paint, charcoal, and pastel,

The most beautiful

Bouquet of flowers

Sprawls out, all over

The canvas.

How did that happen?

I scratch my head,

In wonder.

I think,

It’s all the

Stuff underneath,

All the marks that

Looked like they

Didn’t matter,

The things

Covered over,

 Actually were

The things

That made it

Most beautiful,

That gave it

Light and life.

And it gets me

About my life,

And the canvas of it

And the layers,

The scribbles

And scrawl,

The things under

There that

Don’t look so good

At all.

My Art Teacher,

Are using all that.

And layer after layer,

Are painting me,

And my life,

Into something

You speak to my heart.

Every layer,

And shape,

And thing unknown,

Is known by You.

The things that look

And like

They are headed

Are just

The under painting,

The things that

Will peek through,

In just the right places

Bringing life,

And light,

And Your glory,

(The shiny stuff)

To my small life.

I pick up my brush,

Start to paint

My large white canvas,

And my heart drops,

As I stand back

To look.

It isn’t beautiful,

And looks

Nowhere close.

Feelings to put

The brush down

And forget this

Whole thing

Flood in.

But then

I hear You,

Filling the

Empty spaces,

“It’s in

It isn’t

Just keep

And listening.

I am

With you,

And in you,

And I am making

Just wait

You’ll see,

I am

Setting you

And teaching

To paint

Like Me!

Ecclesiastes 3:11

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Song of Songs 4:7

You are altogether beautiful, my darling;

There is no flaw in you.

Big Bold Blooms First Layers

I am enjoying Lynn Whipple’s Big Bold Bloom class but it is definitely taking courage and time too! The first assignment was to take three large canvases and paint them with three different base colors, white, grey and orange. Then we were to sketch with charcoal our bouquets but turn the canvas three times each sketching again and again, finally ending with large x’s over the whole thing. Next we were to paint random shapes in different colors over all that, with the knowledge that all of this will be completely painted over.  This is the first time for me painting so big and actually using an easel so I am finding myself feeling very uncoordinated 🙂 Anway, here are my first three canvases steps one and two.  I have one of them almost done that I hope to post next week so you can see the final painting. I thought you might like to see all the steps though.

Waiting on March

color class day 1 -1

Waiting on March

By Susie Teramura

Heavy snowflakes

Blanket branches,

And dust

Bulbs, that are making

Their early

Spring debut.

It melts quickly though,

Water trickling,

Slowly soaking,

The brown earth,

And in a few short days

Temperatures climb,

Jackets come off,

And feet find

Their way into

Flip-flops again.

It‘s March,

The in-between month.

The month of

Ups and downs,

Of roaring lion winds,

And sweet, baby lamb breezes.

It’s the month of waiting,

Of the, not yet,

Of the, it’s coming.

March has never

Been my

Favorite month.

It’s too indecisive,

Too much teasing and

Straddling of the

Seasons for my taste,

But  the truth is,

I am finding

It’s the season

I am in too.

That You, God,

Have placed me here

In an

In- between place,

The place of

Not yet,

And You are

Showing me

That there is something

Beautiful here,

That this

Long, grey, wait,

Is growth disguised,

And that the surprise,

Is on its way,

For when March

Has done its work

in me

Spring will be

In a garden of color.

My heart

will be made new

And I will be

Beautiful, like You.

So all this to say,

My heart is softening

Towards March,

And letting go

Of the need to

Get there, right now,

And learning to be ok

In the not yet.

To enjoy

the journey,

And accept

the process,

Knowing that

You are present

In the slowing,

and waiting,

Master of

the unseen growing.

You have a perfect

plan for me

And are working

it out

so carefully.

So I will hold

On to You

till March

is through

You promise

You are making

All things new.
