Finding Rest

Finding Rest

By Susie Teramura

I am having

Trouble

Finding my words,

Or maybe

Finding my heart

Is a better way

To put it.

It seems buried

Under responsibilities

And problems

And the work

It takes to dig

It out

Leaves me

Even more exhausted

Than I was

Before

The hunt began.

So I have

Stopped looking,

And have decided to

Turn my face

Towards

You,

Beautiful One,

Who

Holds me,

And my

Heart too.

And I am

Deciding

To rest there,

Knowing that I am

Loved,

And held,

And nothing else

Really matters.

All life’s drama,

The ups and downs,

The moments when

My stomach can’t seem

To hold the news,

It’s all good,

Because You

Are all good

And nothing

Can stop

You,

And your plans;

Your perfect

Plans for me.

Your kind eyes

Tell the story,

Your love

For me,

Undying

And committed

Outrageously undeserved,

Your relentless pursuit

Of me

Over and over and

Over again.

You gave it all

And you keep on

Giving

Never-ending amounts,

Generous Father,

There are not

Words for You,

You

Out –give,

Out –love,

Over- do,

Filling me with

All of You.

So here I sit,

The shell

Of me,

Emptied of

Anything good

To say,

Right here.

In your

Hands,

I will

Rest today.

Hebrews 4:9-10 a

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest….

Psalm 62:1a

Truly my soul finds rest in God….

Psalm 71:20

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

Isaiah 30:15

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength,

Psalm 116:7

Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.

Bible Journaling

My dear friend introduced me to Bible journaling and gave me a journaling Bible. It has been so much fun and has taken courage for me to try it! (It is hard to take the risk of messing up a page in my Bible.) Anyway, I thought I would share a few of my pages to hopefully inspire others to try it too.

Remember

Bird painting cropped

Remember

By Susie Teramura

On this day

That didn’t go

So well,

Where things,

And people,

Seem broken,

And where

All looks lost,

I will remember,

Call to mind

These things

And fix

My thoughts

On You,

I will remember

That You

Are faithful

And good

I will remember

That You

Specialize

In the impossible

Making something

Out of nothing,

You call

What is worthless,

A treasure.

You make sense

Of the chaos,

And You

Bring peace

In the middle

Of the storm.

You quiet

The wind,

And silence

The waves,

The ones that seem

To want to

Tip our boat.

I will remember

You are in charge,

The captain

Of the ship,

Of the sea,

Captain of me,

I will remember

Your heart is

For me,

And You are

On my side.

I will remember

I belong to You.

I am Your treasure.

I will remember

The times You have

Seen me through,

Days I didn’t think

I could put my

Feet on the floor,

Let alone walk out

The door yet,

You met me there,

And made my awful

Beautiful.

I will remember

Red seas,

Parted

Walls

Blown down

Blind

Who see

Lame

That walk

Barren ones

With babies

Prison chains

Unlocked

The grave

Empty

Dead now

Alive!

I will remember,

Miracle after miracle

That’s my heritage

That’s my family

A part of

My story too.

And that same power

That same love

That same grace

Is in me

And with me tonight.

So at the end of the day

I am putting my rally cap on.

This game isn’t over,

This story isn’t done,

He’s just told me,

We’ve already won!

Psalm 42:6

My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you ….

Psalm 63:6

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.

Psalm 78:35

They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.

Psalm 115:12

The Lord remembers us and will bless us

Psalm 143:5

I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.

Y- is for Yellow- Picasso Blue

Our second assignment had to do with Picasso’s Blue Period. After the death of a friend, Picasso began to paint all of his works in dark shades of blue. The subjects were usually beggars or street people. We had to choose some of these and copy them. We were to use a layering technique starting with gel medium on the lightest parts. Then we were to layer with watercolors about 5 times. I honestly didn’t like many these paintings but chose the ones I liked best to copy. I also couldn’t bear to just paint them in dark blues and grays so I improvised a little. I learned some things and call these practice paintings. (This helps me to feel better about not liking them much!!)

ABC Adoration

By Susie Teramura

I

Adore You

Beautiful, You

Creator of all I see

My Delight

Excellent in all you do,

Famous One yet

So Good to me,

Hope wrapped in flesh

Indescribable gift,

Jesus you are

Kind and

Loving towards the least of these,

Towards Me,

Nothing withheld,

Opened  arms wide,

Pouring out your blood

Quietly You

Re- storied me

Safe now,

Tucked in

Under Your wings,

Very close to your heart

X-traordinarily loved

YOUR

Zoe, life, now in me.

John 14: 20

I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

Psalm 61:4

I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

Psalm 18:19 (NIV)

 He brought me out into a spacious place;

he rescued me because he delighted in me.

At bedtime we have been praying an ABC adoration prayer. We go through the alphabet and think of all the great things we love about God and tell Him so! It has been good for my soul to pray this way before I list all my troubles. Somehow when we are done the troubles don’t seem so big. When we increase our view of God our earthly troubles fade in His shadow and rightly so for nothing is too big or hard or complicated for our Father. That’s the beauty of prayer and praise and why I think He calls us to it; to set our minds on Him. He is the perfect place to find all we are longing for.
