By Susie Teramura

Hurriedly picking up

The schoolroom,

Feeling behind

Overwhelmed by

The weight

Of it all,

The tasks,

And the New Year,

So fast.

Sour mood

Sets in as

It feels impossible

To do it all

And the worry,

And fussing,

Is happening

in my head,

Like a flock of birds,

Each one speaking

Its own mind

At its own tempo,

Trying to talk

Than the worry

Next to it.

Making me feel

Tired and worn,

And then

The handle

Of my broom,

Hits my stack

Of Bible verses

Off the shelf

Now scattered

All over the floor,

And there it is

In plain English,

Isaiah 30:15

“In quietness and trust is your strength”

I read it again

And it hits me

Fresh, like

An ocean spray,

Opening my eyes

Slow and squinty,

To what is

Right in front

And available

To me.

This verse says it

So clearly.

My strength is

Directly related

To my trust

In You.

And trust

Is manifest

In a quiet spirit,

So the more

I trust,

The more

I quiet,

The more

I quiet,

The fretting

Takes flight

My strength

Will be renewed.

My sour sweetens

And I smile

Towards You,

And as quick

As they came,

Away those birds

 Isaiah 30:15

…In quietness and trust is your strength…

 Isaiah 30:15(NLT)

Your strength will come by being quiet and by trusting.

 Isaiah 30:15 (message)

..Your strength will come from settling down

in complete dependence on me,

  1. Susie,
Love this about your broom making more of a mess when you’re trying to clean up — isn’t that how it is sometimes?! But talk about divine inspiration of the verse God directed your attention to! In his strength, we can rest and be quiet, even when everything around us (and in our souls) is chaos. Such beauty in those words!

    1. Hi Valerie- Yes it seems always that way for me!! The day the kitchen floor is finally mopped is when we spill the jug of juice ! Hahaha He is so good to know whats going on inside and out isn’t He! :)sending love and hugs-

  2. This is beautiful! I truly enjoyed this poem…thank you for sharing your heart 🙂 That verse has been on my own heart lately, as I tend to be so distracted by the noise in the world and in myself. Love it!

  3. It’s so good to have you and your calming poetry back, Susie. 🙂 I love how God fluttered that verse to your attention and how He brings you back to resting in Him. Also the different versions you share of that verse. Blessings and hugs to you!

    1. Hi Trudi, 🙂 Its nice to be back amongst such encouraging sisters in Christ like you 🙂 He is so good to stop me and be so patient with me and all my worrying! blessings and hugs back 🙂 xo
