The Perfect Gift

LAC Unit 3-snowy day-1

The Perfect Gift

By Susie Teramura

Dried pine needles

Litter the carpet

Stray pieces of

Wrapping paper

Like a mosaic

Tell the story of

Christmas day

Come and gone,

Of gifts opened

And received,

Now piled in

The corners

Of the room,

Surprises revealed,

And love

Poured out,

Christmas day is

Over and

In flows

A wave

Of sadness

Again.

Another year

Passing,

More memories

Made to add

To my
Life- long collection,

So I spend

A bit of time

With this

Reflection,

Christmas

Is done.

But I’ve

Decided,

I’m still

Celebrating,

Because

The day

You were

Born,

I was

Born too.

Your life

For mine,

Forever

For all time.

The celebration,

It never ends.

I am just

Starting

My forever living.

So while

Christmas

Is ending,

The perfect gift,

Is just beginning,

Our relationship

Unfolding,

just like

That red Amaryllis

On my side table.

And I am

Learning,

There is

No end to You.

You fill

To overflowing,

You love

Never ending,

And dole out

Grace like

A bottomless

Cup of tea,

You Father

Love me.

So as I pack

The boxes

And embrace

A new year

Of living,

I’m celebrating,

Because

You Father

Are the Gift,

That keeps

On giving.

Exodus 33:17b

…..you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

Psalm 84:11

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.

John 1:16

And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.

Psalm 23:6

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 117:2

For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.

  1. I LOVE THIS – I CAN SO RELATE TO THE FEELINGS OF CHRISTMAS BEING OVER AND YET MORE CELEBRATIONS TO COME AS A NEW YEAR BEGINS —

  2. Amen! He is that Gift that keeps on giving. I love how He doles out grace and loves us no matter what! Thank you, Susie, for reminding me of this Truth today. I so need to rest in Him and His promises of love and grace. I hope 2016 is filled with God’s grace and love for you!

  3. Susie,
You perfectly described those bittersweet feelings of holiday times that take hold of our hearts! But you give us hope when you draw our attention to the only gift that keeps on giving and will never leave us — God’s presence and his love that surrounds us always. I can picture you cleaning up the wrapping and packing up the boxes, and maybe you, like me, think that so much time and effort went into the planning of just a few hours of holiday specialness and why can’t we capture that spirit all year long? I pray that you wait with anticipation, expectantly, for all God will show you in the new year! Praying bountiful blessings for you! xoxo
