CHristmas pears

By Susie Teramura

Doorbell rings,

A man in

A brown jacket

Drops a stack

Of odd shaped boxes,

 On the

Front step.

I bring them in,

And shake off

The cold,

Wondering again

If I bought

Too much…but,

 Gift after gift arrives,

Packaged pretty,

And put

Under the tree,

Thought after thought,

Wrapped in

Shiny foil paper,

Tied with

 golden bows

Of loving kindness,

And tagged

With tenderness,

And loving care.

The tree looks

Taller somehow,

Colored lights

Spilling love,

Abundant blessings,

Piling high.

And I am thinking

About You, Father,

And that word,

You give

That way,

“Extremely plentiful,”

In “over sufficient quantity,”

Over and above,

It’s that kind of love,

You have

For me.

You wrapped

Your gift

In pink newborn skin,

And nailed Him

To a tree,

Ribbons of red,

Spilled for me,

Making me

Giving me

A forever home,

With a room

Of my own,

A place to be

For eternity,

Packages of love,

Piled under the tree,

I am loved

John 10:10

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.

Psalm 86:15

But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

Psalm 130:7

O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption.

  1. Beautiful drawing and words — making me think about the Gift and all the other gifts not just at Christmas , but every day — the One behind our daily abundant blessings — so many images of love and beauty you gave me this morning

  2. What a beautiful poem, Susie! Just perfect for us to remember the great sacrifice of our God and King–especially at this time of year. Oh who am I kidding–for ANY time of the year! 🙂

  3. This is beautiful, Susie. It’s so amazing how abundant His blessings are towards us. “Extremely plentiful,” In “over sufficient quantity.” This adds more depth and amazement to the verses you remind us of. Thank you. I hope you have a Christmas filled with love, peace, joy, and hope! Hugs!

  4. Susie,
I love the pears — the colors are just gorgeous! {I’m an admirer of fruit art and even have a watercolor of fruit hanging in my kitchen that my mother found for me at Goodwill!} But your words are striking in today’s post as you poignantly describe the ribbons of red Christ bled for us — what a picture of love — so unfathomable, really, is his love for us! I pray you are surrounded with love from your beautiful family this season and I’m so grateful for you and for your friendship! xo

  5. I like drawing/ painting fruit- esp with watercolor – such a great medium 🙂 He is so wonderful 🙂 Praying you will be blessed greatly this Christmas too!! And how grateful I am for your friendship- Counting it as one of my great blessings this year!! sending Christmas hugs!
