Coffee for Your Heart- Movie Music

Movie Music

By Susie Teramura

Bright eyed and excited

She calls me in

To see her project

On “ i Movie,”

And shows me a trailer

She has made

Making her daddy’s

Youth football team look

Epic.

And the music plays loud

And clip after clip

Young boys

Look like heroes,

And my husband

Like ‘Coach

Of the Year’,

And all in

Two minutes,

A mighty battle

Has been won,

And something

Really important,

And special

Has gone on.

I think on this

And wonder what

Has made

The ordinary

And the everydayness

Into something

Epic,

And I think

It is the music

Behind moments,

Capturing the heart

Of it all.

And I walk away thinking,

That’s what I need,

Background music

To make my everyday

Seem important,

To seem

Epic,

Like something,

Really special

Has gone on here

Today.

And I smile

Imagining,

Clip after clip,

Of my everyday

Laundry folding,

Dinner making,

Shoe tying,

Teeth brushing,

Put to an

Orchestral symphony,

And there

You are,

Speaking to me again

And reminding me

Of the verses that say

That You

Do that Father,

You sing songs

Over me and put

Background music

To my every day.

Some days

A lullaby,

Other days

A love song,

But lots of days

The song might be

A bit more

Epic.

Because

The things I think

Are just

Ordinary,

You call

Life changing.

The things I think

Don’t matter,

You say

Matter.

You honor

Faithfulness

In the small things,

You see and capture

The moments

The behind the scenes stuff

The tears shed

The days of defeat

And when all seems lost,

And the days

Love overcame

And victory was

Won.

You rescuer

Ride in to save the day

Calling what’s worthless

Your pearl

Of great price

Making my

Small life

Epic.

Eternal treasures

Gained,

Lives saved,

Day after day.

You are writing

The story,

You are writing

The song,

The one that’s

Been playing

In your heart

All along

It’s been there

Forever, since

The beginning

Of time,

It’s singing loud

(And Epic)

I am yours

And you are mine.

 Psalm 32:7

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 42:8

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

Zephaniah 3:17(NIV)

The Lord your God is with you,

The Mighty Warrior who saves.

He will take great delight in you;

in his love he will no longer rebuke you,

but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17(MSG)

Jerusalem will be told:

“Don’t be afraid.

Dear Zion,

don’t despair.

Your God is present among you,

a strong Warrior there to save you.

Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love

and delight you with his songs.

  1. Beautiful, Susie. Some days music runs through me. Now I will try to think about it as part of the symphony of my life.
In fact, “No Longer Slaves” has been playing in my mind for days and your words expand it for me. Blessed.

    1. Elaine- I am so glad you can relate and have days where you can hear the music!! 🙂 I will have to look up that song- It sounds really good. Praying that God will help us to hear his music for our lives everyday – and rest there knowing we are loved and held and important to Him! sending hugs

  2. Aww, Susie your daughter’s trailer was precious, what a keepsake. Absolutely love your recognition of His music over us and especially love Psalm 42:8 that you shared through this. Blessings today…

  3. Susie,
I just LOVE that your sweet girl put this together! I enjoyed watching it and I think about how much my niece loves playing around in iMovie on my laptop, too! She hosts a dog show and is really quite entertaining (of course, her auntie is biased!) But more than the talents of your daughter, I savored your words (read them as they came in my in-box last night and again this morning) about the roles we play in the epic story of time and God’s plan in this world. Have you read John Eldredge’s book “Epic?” I love Eldredge’s deep insight and Epic is one of my favorites of his– how our stories matter and play a part in the bigger story we live in.

Your beautiful words about God writing our songs and our stories spoke to me this week (some weeks are harder than others, aren’t they?) and your reflective words of the one who loves us most are so appreciated! xo

    1. Hi Valerie- 🙂 Oh i would love to see the dog show!!! How fun!!! I love it! 🙂 I haven’t heard of that book but it sounds really good!- I find myself longing for that idea- wanting my life to make a difference and be epic! hahah! and my life never fits my picture of that- God keeps bringing me back in though and showing me His eyes see better – and that His plan is unfolding, the movie isn’t ready for production yet but when it is and when he plays it back for us someday I think He is assuring us it will be epic- and we will say wow… i had no idea- and then I will probably cry in a heap at his feet – he is so faithful and beautiful and it will be worth it all! Hope your week gets better- praying it will and you will be refreshed even now! sending hugs and love ( and a chocolate chip scone-a really good one 🙂

  4. Welcome back, Susie! I missed you last week. Last night during the night you came into my thoughts and I felt I needed to pray to the One who knows all you need.

This poem brought me to tears. As always, I love the verses you found to go with it. The thought that our Father is singing over us and providing the background music to our everyday lives is so comforting. This part especially moved me – “Calling what’s worthless Your pearl Of great price Making my Small life Epic.” Thank you, Susie. And by the way, your daughter did a great job! 🙂

  5. Hi Trudi-Thanks for missing me! I missed you all too- so much going on having trouble quieting my heart enough to listen-So touched and thankful for your prayers for me-That meant so much to me today to know that -Thank you so much- God’s kindness towards us never ends and I am finding it runs deeper than we can even imagine. I think His songs for us come from that deep place in his heart- the place where songs work better- 🙂 Thankful for you Trudi- sending hugs
