Coffee for Your Heart- A New Day

A New Day

By Susie Teramura

Ribbons of

Golden light

Stream through

My frosty pain,

Birds squabble,

And sing,

In the almost

Empty tree,

Calico kitty

Curled up

At my feet

Purring softly,

And in beat.

Clouds wander

Like sheep,

Being let out

From their pen,

Morning is breaking

And I am

Here again,

At your feet,

Broken too,

Waiting to

Hear words

From You,

Words that will

Get me

Through this day

What is it Father

You have to say?

And I wait,

In the quiet

But all I can

Hear is the

Thrum of the heat,

Pouring through the vents,

And the grunts,

Of those waking

Slowly in

The other room,

And my heart

Starts to scramble,

Father please

Talk to me,

Quickly, before

They wake up

And it begins,

The craziness

The business,

Of it all,

I need a word

From You,

My desperate

Heart cries,

And then

It comes quiet,

And slow,

“Peace be still

I am here”

And it hits me,

It’s not

A word

I need,

It’s You

I need,

And your presence

Wrapped

Around me,

So I Crawl

Into your lap

And just be held,

And just be

There with You,

And in the being

Present and real,

My broken heart

Starts to heal,

I sit quiet,

In your arms,

And stop,

Trying to figure

It all out,

You know the road

That lies ahead,

And all that is behind,

You know

The beginning,

And the end,

You are writing

A story

On my heart,

One of beauty,

A piece of art,

Beauty of for ashes,

A crown of glory,

A new name

And a white dress,

I am being re- storied

And I will

Receive

Joy this morning.

So I rest here

With you

For a bit

And the

Best part

Of it,

Is that when

They wake,

And it all begins,

You are

With me

Still,

You do not leave,

Your presence,

Always there

With what I need,

Little feet

Come padding in

climbing up

For a hug,

The one home

From college,

Jumps in the shower

To freshen up,

Birds have quieted

And gone their way

And in Your presence,

Your lovely,

Loving, presence

I will stay

Today.

Psalm 73:28

But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;

Acts 2:28

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’

Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God

Isaiah 63:1

…. to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 62:2

you will be called by a new name

that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.

1 Peter 5:4

And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

Isaiah 61:10

I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 25:9

In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation

These were from a class I took a while ago called Table Top Painting with Diane Culhane. This is a week of feasting and being thankful.  Sketching what you eat is a wonderful way to slow down and be grateful.(I have been so busy as my kids have arrived home from college- and have had not had much time for art! Hope to have something new up next week!)

Coffee for Your Heart- Home

LAC Unit 3- saliboats-1

Home

By Susie Teramura

 Bleachers full,

Parents and siblings

Dressed in

Red and black,

Full of energy,

And anticipation,

Boys warm up

On the field,

Passing footballs,

Waiting for

The whistle

To blow

And begin

The game,

The announcer

Welcomes all,

And invites us

To face the flag,

And the National Anthem

Plays loud,

And clear,

Filling the air,

And the flag flaps

Free in the wind,

And somehow

It feels different,

Today in light

Of world events,

Of terrorists

In Paris,

And things

Gone crazy,

Hearing the words

Of the National Anthem

Remind me

Of our great country,

And that

I am apart

Of a larger entity,

A citizen of the

United States of America.

And somehow

It feels right,

To be under

That flag,

That authority,

That place of belonging,

A land

Flawed and broken

But still my home

But then

The breeze blows

In thoughts of You

And a sense

Of profound

Gratefulness,

Sets deep

In my heart.

In reality,

I am citizen

Of Your country,

And Heaven,

It’s my real home.

And I belong to

A perfect place

Where pain,

And tears,

Are no more.

And I will dwell

In this place,

Where there

Is only good,

And love,

And light.

And You,

King of All,

Lord of Love,

Are my Daddy,

And nothing

Can change that.

My birthright,

Bought by

Your blood is

Sealed forever

In love.

Seated at the

Right hand

of my Father,

That’s my place,

That’s my home,

And that’s

Where I’m headed,

When this

Life is done.

As the music ends,

And the game begins,

The flag flaps its colors

Bright in the sun

Reminding me

My home is secure,

My victory is won.

Philippians 3:20

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Deuteronomy 18:2

….. the Lord is their inheritance, as he promised them

Ephesians 2:6

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

John 14:2

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Birds on Birds

I just finished a class taught by Allison O’Donoghue called Birds on Birds- It took me a few weeks to finish it, but it was a very interesting process using black gesso as a background and transparent acrylic paints on top. I really enjoyed it and hope to try again 🙂

Coffee for Your Heart- Movie Music

Movie Music

By Susie Teramura

Bright eyed and excited

She calls me in

To see her project

On “ i Movie,”

And shows me a trailer

She has made

Making her daddy’s

Youth football team look

Epic.

And the music plays loud

And clip after clip

Young boys

Look like heroes,

And my husband

Like ‘Coach

Of the Year’,

And all in

Two minutes,

A mighty battle

Has been won,

And something

Really important,

And special

Has gone on.

I think on this

And wonder what

Has made

The ordinary

And the everydayness

Into something

Epic,

And I think

It is the music

Behind moments,

Capturing the heart

Of it all.

And I walk away thinking,

That’s what I need,

Background music

To make my everyday

Seem important,

To seem

Epic,

Like something,

Really special

Has gone on here

Today.

And I smile

Imagining,

Clip after clip,

Of my everyday

Laundry folding,

Dinner making,

Shoe tying,

Teeth brushing,

Put to an

Orchestral symphony,

And there

You are,

Speaking to me again

And reminding me

Of the verses that say

That You

Do that Father,

You sing songs

Over me and put

Background music

To my every day.

Some days

A lullaby,

Other days

A love song,

But lots of days

The song might be

A bit more

Epic.

Because

The things I think

Are just

Ordinary,

You call

Life changing.

The things I think

Don’t matter,

You say

Matter.

You honor

Faithfulness

In the small things,

You see and capture

The moments

The behind the scenes stuff

The tears shed

The days of defeat

And when all seems lost,

And the days

Love overcame

And victory was

Won.

You rescuer

Ride in to save the day

Calling what’s worthless

Your pearl

Of great price

Making my

Small life

Epic.

Eternal treasures

Gained,

Lives saved,

Day after day.

You are writing

The story,

You are writing

The song,

The one that’s

Been playing

In your heart

All along

It’s been there

Forever, since

The beginning

Of time,

It’s singing loud

(And Epic)

I am yours

And you are mine.

 Psalm 32:7

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 42:8

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

Zephaniah 3:17(NIV)

The Lord your God is with you,

The Mighty Warrior who saves.

He will take great delight in you;

in his love he will no longer rebuke you,

but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17(MSG)

Jerusalem will be told:

“Don’t be afraid.

Dear Zion,

don’t despair.

Your God is present among you,

a strong Warrior there to save you.

Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love

and delight you with his songs.
