Coffee for Your Heart- My Good Thought

My Good Thought

By Susie Teramura

Restless and afraid

Of bad dreams

She asks again

For a good thought,

A thought that will

Chase out the fear,

And so we go through

The list again

Of lovely things,

And happy places

To visit.

She settles,

Her mind busy

Thinking on

The good stuff,

And sleep comes.

Soon it’s my turn,

Covers pulled up tight

And mind

Starts working,

Thinking on the problems

Of my day

Scrolling through

My loved ones

And their concerns,

And then things

Head south as

My mind mulls over

The bad,

Recalling the headlines,

And news reports,

And so I call out to You.

Father, I need

A good thought,

A thought lovely,

And pure,

And true,

And the more I think,

I realize that,

My good

Thought is

You.

Father of lights,

Love come down,

Creator God,

Who cares for me.

It’s Your kindness

That draws me in,

And captivates my heart,

It’s Your beauty

That holds me there.

And slowly,

The fear

Melts away

And not one

Bad thought

Can stay,

For You

Have been

The Maker

Of my day,

And in

All things,

And through

All things,

It will always

Be true,

My good thought

Forever,

Will be

You.

2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

 I John 4:18

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear..

  1. Hi Susie,
As you wrote about your sweet girl wanting good thoughts to replace scary thoughts, I thought of my niece who’s 8 since she says the same thing when I babysit her and put her to bed! She’s so cute, telling me she’s trying to think about Jesus and her favorite stuffed animals and she tells me she just has an active imagination! But really, I have similar scary thoughts – -just the adult version — getting older, jobs, health, and the list goes on for us, doesn’t it? Just like you shared today, I have to stop and remember that nothing happens to me that doesn’t first come under God’s jurisdiction for me – -and that’s when I’m calm. It’s amazing, our father’s love for us, isn’t it? His very words quiet our souls. Love those words of yours, Susie! xoxo

  2. Hi Valerie- thanks for understanding and relating- seems like lots to worry about when I get myself going! 😉 His love is amazing and life changing 🙂 and he seems to always have more to give – the more I give of me he meets me there with abundance- Thankful for you my sister and friend in Him!
