Coffee for Your Heart- My Good Thought

My Good Thought

By Susie Teramura

Restless and afraid

Of bad dreams

She asks again

For a good thought,

A thought that will

Chase out the fear,

And so we go through

The list again

Of lovely things,

And happy places

To visit.

She settles,

Her mind busy

Thinking on

The good stuff,

And sleep comes.

Soon it’s my turn,

Covers pulled up tight

And mind

Starts working,

Thinking on the problems

Of my day

Scrolling through

My loved ones

And their concerns,

And then things

Head south as

My mind mulls over

The bad,

Recalling the headlines,

And news reports,

And so I call out to You.

Father, I need

A good thought,

A thought lovely,

And pure,

And true,

And the more I think,

I realize that,

My good

Thought is

Father of lights,

Love come down,

Creator God,

Who cares for me.

It’s Your kindness

That draws me in,

And captivates my heart,

It’s Your beauty

That holds me there.

And slowly,

The fear

Melts away

And not one

Bad thought

Can stay,

For You

Have been

The Maker

Of my day,

And in

All things,

And through

All things,

It will always

Be true,

My good thought

Will be

2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

 I John 4:18

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear..

Uncharted Waters

Bu Susie Teramura

So my heart

Is breaking

To see

The struggle,

And hear her words,

And her attempts,

To be brave.

To make friends,

And find a way,

Telling me

How hard it is

To read

Her own

Jumbled answers

To the teacher

And to the class.

And I am

Finding that

That we have

Glitches to work

Learning challenges

Making themselves plain

As we set forth

Into first grade,

Uncharted waters

For us both.

And so I am

Coming to You Father,

Creator, Maker

Almighty One,

And laying this on You,

And putting

This sweet one,

In Your hands

And again.

Wondering about

The fearful privilege

Of being, mama

To this precious soul,

And so I am

Leaning on You,

Putting my

Full weight there,

Trusting You

To lead the way,

Knowing You will

Carry us both,

 Reminding myself that this

Is just another

Chance to see

Your glorious strength,

And beauty,

Break through,

And to see You

Do the wonderful thing

You always do,

Make all things

Work together

For her good,

For my good,

That this is just

The beginning

Of a wonderful story

That You are going

To tell through her

And me.

You, rescuer,

Strong one,

Will come

To our aid,

Right on time,

To save her,

Save us,

With your strong arm

Carrying us off

With You

You do it

Again and again,

Same story,

Different settings,

And people,

With parts to play,

But Father

It’s Your way.

You take the weak,

The broken,

The damaged,

And make us

And new.

So I push the

Wet, tear soaked hair,

Out of her face

And kiss her cheeks,

Once again,

And whisper

To both our hearts,

 It’s going to be ok,

He’s carrying us,

And will help us

 Find our way.

Psalm 23:3

He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Deuteronomy 33:26

“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.

He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.

Psalm 91:13

Psalm “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

Year of the Spark- Ink Drawings

Our assignment for the Year of the Spark Class was to do 25 ink drawings (done with an ink dropper ) all in one sitting. I was only able to do 6 in one sitting and another 6 or so in the next. I can only do my art late at night and have trouble getting a straight hour to work. Anyway here is what I came up with. I used my old Junior High year book and drew some of our teachers. 🙂 It was very fun! As you can see big glasses were very in 🙂 !

Coffee for Your Heart- Never Ending Blessings

painting fall reflections -1

Never Ending Blessings

By Susie Teramura

Skies clear blue,

Like endless water,

Trees touched with color,

Tips beginning to turn,

Breeze sways branches

And down they fall,

Yellow teardrop

Leaves sprinkling

The earth

Like a gentle rain.

And little one

Looks up,

Arms open wide,

Twirls and tries

To catch them all,

And I watch on,

Feeling blessed

To be here,

On this day,

At this time,

Watching this precious

One of Yours,

Soak it all in

Enjoying beauty

With all of herself

And unafraid,

Receiving blessings

From You,

Without even

Knowing it,

And I am thinking

About those leaves,

That idea of pretty things

Floating down,

On top of us,

Making the day

And I hear You

Speaking to my heart

About blessings,

And about

Receiving them

With open arms,

And face lifted

Up to You,

The Giver.

See I think

There is

Fear hidden

In the corner of

My heart

That thinks that

If I fully recieve

The blessings

You give me,

Then, that’s it,

The beauty

Will be over,

And I will have

To look

Forward to,

So I

Partially thank,

Partially receive,

And I miss it,

This blessing thing.

And You are

challenging me,

And teaching me,

To trust

That there is

Always more

With You .

The blessings

Will never end,

They will keep

Pouring out,

The storeroom is

Never empty,

And Your heart

Never quits,

Blessing me.

It is Your joy,

What You love to do,

And what You love best,

like these,

Watching me,

Fully receive

Arms stretched wide,

Face lifted high,

Living full,

Knowing the Giver

Will never stop giving,

The Lover

Will never stop loving,

And that I belong

To You

My Maker

Of Heaven and Earth,

And I look up

The leaves

Keep falling

On me

Piling up

In my heart

Golden blessings,

Never ending,

This Love belongs

To me.

 Psalm 21:6

Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

 Deuteronomy 28:12

The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands

 1 Corinthians 16:23 (msg)

Our Master Jesus has his arms wide open for you.

 Psalm 81:10 (b)

Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

 Deuteronomy 32:2

Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.

 Psalm 31:19

How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.

Doings of a Doodle-

doodle - little one

This painting is from a class I am working my way through called “Doings of a Doodle” by Diane Culhane. (Most of the classes I take can be found here if you are ever interested in taking one too!!) Anyway, this class is all about taking our doodles and making art with them. This is Japanese rice paper glued onto a wood board. The doodle is sketched with a Sharpie, then painted in with Acrylic paint and then sealed. Something about “doodling” takes the pressure off, and helping to work even the imperfections into the piece in a beautiful way! 🙂

Coffee for your Heart- No Words Required

Painting fall - leaf

No Words Required

By Susie Teramura

Sometimes words

Just don’t

Cut it

They can’t

Do the job

Like I wish they could.

I find there

Is a space

In my soul

Where words

Don’t work,

And there is

Nothing to

Accurately describe

What going on

In there.

I am wondering

About this,

And what this is,

And what it says

About me,

About us,

And all I can think

Is that

It’s proof,

That there is more

To us,

Than our minds,

And bodies,

There is a spirit

In there,

A God breathed spirit.

It’s there

All the outside

The core of me,

It’s the place

That came to life

When You

Called my name

It’s the essence

Of You

In me.

It’s the space

Where I was

Born again

And where

I meet with You

And You

Share Your heart,

With me,

Spirit to spirit.

And the thing

I’m learning is

That is ok,

That I don’t

Have words

For things

Too deep,

Too big,

Too painful,

Too hard,

Too beautiful,

Or too good,

Because they are

Held there,

In the secret place,

With You

And understood.

No words

(And Your kindness

Spills out,

Grace for all

The wordless ones

Like me.)
