Enter In

By Susie Teramura

Keep feeling

Stuck,

So I ask You,

Father,

For wisdom

Again,

For You are

My counselor,

The one

Who counsels

Me,

Speaking words

Of truth and love,

Touching my heart

In the places

It needs,

The places I didn’t

Even know exist.

I am

Learning that

You are gentle,

And one

To be trusted,

You handle me

With care,

And so

I lean in,

And listen there,

And You say

These things

To me today,

To send

My fear away,

“Enter my courts with thanksgiving,

And my gates with praise,

For I am good and my love lasts forever.”

So I think,

And chew on,

This.

Digesting it,

Till it becomes

Apart of me.

And so I begin

To thank You,

For all I can

Think of,

The puffy clouds,

A bright blue sky,

The grass that

Waves as I

Pass by,

The brave hawk

Doing

Big circles

Way up high,

And before I know it,

Fear begins

To leave,

And I find myself

Entering in,

To Your courts

Full of lovely things.

But You

Call me

To come closer,

Past the courts

And open the gates

With praise

So I shift

My thoughts,

Of thanks

To praise,

And I begin

To name

All the things

I love about You,

Your goodness,

Pure and

So, so, good,

Not even

A tiny bit of bad.

Your faithfulness,

There is no

Turning with You,

Completely devoted

To me.

And kindness,

That sees in,

Understanding me

in ways

I have never known.

And so the list goes on

And I find myself

Entering in

Just like You said

To Your gates

To the place

Where You are

Your very presence.

You open wide

Your heart and

Home to me,

I am welcome there,

And I find

I have forgotten

All about my fear,

Because I have

Found Your love here.

And it’s in

The courts,

And through

These gates,

You invite me

To live

Each day,

Here’s my home

and where

I want to stay.

 Psalm 100:4-5

Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.

 Psalm 84:10

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Isaiah 51:3

The Lord will surely comfort (Zion) and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

  1. What a beautiful Psalm you’ve created, Susie… I feel rested and peaceful after your tender poem about dwelling in Him… wow. So thankful I was able to be your neighbour at #CoffeeForYourHeart!!!

  2. Susie,
It is a mystery, isn’t it, how when we’re feeling stuck in life, focusing on all the good that’s already in our lives is the best posture to take? I love your notice of the hawk flying overhead because recently I had one fly right over my courtyard so close I could see its eyes and what popped into my head was that God’s eyes are always on me — he sees me! I know he notices our fumbling steps toward him and reaches out to us to draw us to him — what a mystery that is! Your words point me right back to him, which is where he wants us. xoxo

    1. Valerie! That is so neat about the hawk! We have a few of them in our backyard- We actually have a pair of eagles too- It is so amazing to watch them soar about and all! It is a real mystery- and really unlike it seems like it should work. It seems like when I have a problem I need to focus on it really hard and come up with a plan to fix it etc. but I’m finding some problems are so way over my head- and this is a good thing really(though I don’t like it!!)-it’s teaching me that depending on Him is where I need to be at all times- Trusting His strong arms in my weaknesses!Sending hugs! 🙂
