Coffee for Your Heart- Rainy Morning Song

Rainy day sketches #1

Rainy Morning Song

 By Susie Teramura

Eyes open slow

To a grey sky and

The smell of earth and

Wet leaves

Another rainy morning

To snuggle in

Close to Your heart

And slow a bit,

To hear the rhythm

Of large drops

Hitting the roof

 And to know

That I am

Held near

To Your heart.

Safe and warm,

 You draw me in

And serve up words

Like tea

 To drink,

That start off

Slow and sweet,

But then make

Their way down

Inside of me

Filling up my insides

With more of You.

Bringing me strength

To start the day.

You satisfy me

In the morning,

And waken my ear

To Your lovely voice,

And teach me to listen

Like one being taught,

Like one who

Needs You

To show me

The way,

To navigate

Through

The bumps

In this day,

Like one who

Needs to be

Reminded

That You are

Love,

And You are

With me,

And can be

Trusted,

And that You are

Holding me,

And helping me,

 That we

Will do this day

Together,

In You,

I am victorious,

No matter what.

And the rain

Keeps coming,

It’s pouring down,

And drop

After drop

I see,

Your love

Like an

Umbrella

Covers

Me.

 Isaiah 50:4

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.

 Psalm 90:14

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

 Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

Psalm 20:6

Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.

Year of the Spark-Turtle

photo 1 photo 4 photo 3

For those of you who might be new to my blog, I am taking Carla Sonheims’s  art class “Year of the Spark. ” In it she and fellow artist Lynn Whipple, teach us all different kinds of art. This is one I kind of got stuck on. These are animals made from wire, fabric strips, and yarn. I have enjoyed making lots of different kinds of these in between my other assignments. I am working on a painting now that I hope I can post next week, but in the mean time I wanted to share my turtle with you all. 🙂 (I apologize again for the poor quality pictures! I still haven’t found a good way to photograph these guys !!)

Enter In

By Susie Teramura

Keep feeling

Stuck,

So I ask You,

Father,

For wisdom

Again,

For You are

My counselor,

The one

Who counsels

Me,

Speaking words

Of truth and love,

Touching my heart

In the places

It needs,

The places I didn’t

Even know exist.

I am

Learning that

You are gentle,

And one

To be trusted,

You handle me

With care,

And so

I lean in,

And listen there,

And You say

These things

To me today,

To send

My fear away,

“Enter my courts with thanksgiving,

And my gates with praise,

For I am good and my love lasts forever.”

So I think,

And chew on,

This.

Digesting it,

Till it becomes

Apart of me.

And so I begin

To thank You,

For all I can

Think of,

The puffy clouds,

A bright blue sky,

The grass that

Waves as I

Pass by,

The brave hawk

Doing

Big circles

Way up high,

And before I know it,

Fear begins

To leave,

And I find myself

Entering in,

To Your courts

Full of lovely things.

But You

Call me

To come closer,

Past the courts

And open the gates

With praise

So I shift

My thoughts,

Of thanks

To praise,

And I begin

To name

All the things

I love about You,

Your goodness,

Pure and

So, so, good,

Not even

A tiny bit of bad.

Your faithfulness,

There is no

Turning with You,

Completely devoted

To me.

And kindness,

That sees in,

Understanding me

in ways

I have never known.

And so the list goes on

And I find myself

Entering in

Just like You said

To Your gates

To the place

Where You are

Your very presence.

You open wide

Your heart and

Home to me,

I am welcome there,

And I find

I have forgotten

All about my fear,

Because I have

Found Your love here.

And it’s in

The courts,

And through

These gates,

You invite me

To live

Each day,

Here’s my home

and where

I want to stay.

 Psalm 100:4-5

Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.

 Psalm 84:10

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Isaiah 51:3

The Lord will surely comfort (Zion) and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

Ice Cream Cone and Doodles

icecream cone 2

Summer is over but ice cream is good all year round! 🙂 This is just a sketch from the sketchbook I keep in my purse. Hope you have a beautiful day and  a chance to taste and see how good God is!

doodles

I am taking a class taught by Dianne Culhane called, ‘Dooings of a Doodle’. It is all about doodling and ends with a painting project made from these doodles. I have had a hard time doodling though!! I end up drawing things instead of a pure doodle of shapes and all? Anyway, we had to copy them and then glue them on watercolor paper. So here they are, my first set of doodles.

Coffee for Your Heart- Writer’s Block

LAC Assignment 2 charcoal

Writer’s Block

By Susie Teramura

Speechless,

My brain is

Spinning so fast,

And is so full

That the words

Won’t come.

The processor

Is jammed up,

The paper tray

Empty,

Stuck,

Crumpled thoughts

Never make their

Way out.

Words and thoughts

Slowed,

Deemed useless.

So I come

To You, Father,

who bypasses

My words

And goes right

To my heart

And my soul

And speaks

To me

There,

And hears me

There,

And smoothes

Out the creases

And finds words lost.

You Father

Do the impossible ,

You rename,

And repurpose,

You call things

Into being

That weren’t

There before.

You move things

That need moving.

You take my

Scared soul,

And set it free,

To be brave,

And unafraid ,

For it has found its

Home in You,

Where words,

And thoughts,

Don’t matter.

You Father are home

Where I can just be,

And am loved

That way,

Renamed,

And repurposed,

Called out,

Your daughter.

And before I know it

My speech returns,

The processor

Slows to

Catch the pace,

The paper feeds

Through,

And words

Are birthed,

Thoughts are given

Ink to wear.

Because dear Father

I found You there.

Mark 13:11

……. do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

John 6:63

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

Numbers 23:9

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Genesis 15:1

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

Exodus 4:12

Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Girl with the Polka Dotted Sweater

girl with pink scarf

This is a watercolor I did about 5 years ago, as a part of a project to draw 100 faces. I have been busy getting our school room set up and haven’t had time for my art this week, but I thought I could share this one with you. I saw a picture of this girl in a magazine and fell in love with not only her hair but the cute outfit she had on. It is funny how when you draw or paint something, they somehow become a little bit apart of you. I like that 🙂

Coffee for Your Heart- Spaces

photo 3

Spaces

By Susie Teramura

There it hangs,

By a single strand

A root,

And she grins,

And begs me

to look again,

Twisting it

With her

Little fingers

To see

If it is

Still there,

Until….

Pop!

With surprised eyes,

She holds

It high,

The tooth

Is out!

And space

Is made

In her

Growing mouth

For the

Bigger ones

That are

On the way,

The permanent ones,

The ones,

That will last

A lifetime.

Loving her sweet

Toothless smile

A wave of

Mixed feelings,

And thoughts,

Enter in.

It’s the space

That stops me,

And seems

To be what

I am seeing,

In my life too.

You, Father,

Making space

For new teeth,

New seasons,

And new things.

I am left

In many ways

With space,

And what seems

Like a wait.

You promise

That new and

Bigger things,

Are on their way,

That things are

Being formed

In the

Secret place.

Your plans

Are in progress,

And soon

The new,

Will push

Through and

Find its way

Into place,

And become

Permanent there.

You ask me

To be ok

With space,

And the wait,

To trust You,

That Your unseen

Hand is

At work,

And to know that

As I enter

Into the

The uncomfortable

Lonely places,

I will find

You there

Waiting

With me,

Your presence

My reward

For all eternity.

She tucks

That tooth

Under her pillow

And we say

Prayers,

Thanking You

For all

The spaces

You made there.

Isaiah 43:19

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 64:4

Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

1 Corithians 2:9

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—

Isaiah 45:3

I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
