Coffee for Your Heart- Open Wide

Watercolor class bee

Open Wide

By Susie Teramura

The morning air

Blows ripples

Across the little lake,

Sky so blue

It seems endless,

Large green leaves

Wrap themselves around

Thick stalks

Decorated with

Frilly purple Flowers,

 Covering the bank,

 Fat, fuzzy bumble bees and

Aqua colored dragonflies dart

Back and forth.

Our basket full,

Blueberry muffins warm,

Wrapped in sugar and a red

Dishtowel,

Bibles tucked in too.

We load into the old

Jon boat and push off into the

Cool water.

We paddle out to the deeper parts.

Soaking up the sun,

We feast on muffins and

Your word,

Getting our fill,

Letting goodness

Find its way to

Our deepest parts,

Bringing nourishment,

And growth.

Our most important

Meal of the day,

Served up in

Black ink on thin paper.

Your word sinks in

And becomes a part of us,

Making us strong and sure,

Binding our hearts to You,

Reminding us

That we are Yours,

And from that place of belonging,

That settled place,

We are freed up to

Receive all

Of today’s gifts,

However they come.

If we open wide,

You will fill.

Out of the corner

Of our eyes,

We catch a glimpse,

A green, grey striped, bass,

Jumps up, mouth stretched wide,

Grabbing his breakfast too

Beautiful morning,

Beautiful You!

John 6:35

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Deuteronomy 8:3

…Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Psalm 81:10

I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

  1. Susie, this is just beautiful, so descriptive I can see myself out on the lake. I’m going to share this one with the Bible study group I lead when we start up in a few weeks. Have a beautiful in Him week…Paris

  2. Susie,
Our most important meal of the day is found in his word — oh, how true this is! But your warm blueberry muffins out on the water sound so lovely and peaceful. I keep reminding myself to fill up on his words and I ask him how he sees me and when I do, I’m surprised at what I hear — through sermons at church, through blogs, through words from friends to me – and it’s such a sweet reminder that God is always at work in our lives. Just love the verse you included — to open ourselves to him and be filled! xoxo
