Coffee for Your Heart- Date Night

Summer Camp Day One Watercolor Crab -Assignment one-2

Date Night

By Susie Teramura

Date night,

Our favorite restaurant,

A dive of a place,

With weathered linoleum floor,

Tiles peeling up in spots,

TV’s playing in every corner

ESPN talking sports news.

Tables covered with

Brown butcher paper

And piled high with

Mounds of steaming crabs,

Coated in old bay seasoning.

Husband and I grab one

By the claws,

And begin,

The hunt for chunks

Of tender meat

To dip in

Hot melted butter,

Our conversations slows

As we set to

The task at hand,

Enjoying the quiet,

And the food,

And company

With each other,

Where much is exchanged

In the experience of it all.

With bellies full

And hearts happy,

We take our leave

And head to

Our next favorite place,

Worship night,

At church.

As we walk into

The sanctuary

We recognize that

We are being noticed,

And not in the nicest way,

Noses wrinkled,

And faces contorted,

People turn away,

We look at each other,

Puzzled,

And then it hits us-

The smell of crabs,

Has permeated our clothes,

And skin,

It has sunk so deep

Into our fingernails,

That three hand washings later

The smell remains.

Deciding to put

Our church family

Out of their misery,

We take the high road,

And head for home,

Laughing all the while,

But that night,

As I scrub deep,

I begin to think

About fragrance,

And smells

And me

And You.

And I am wondering

What smell it is

I carry,

What do I sit with

Long enough,

What I do I consume?

Because it will become me,

And will be my fragrance.

And I am thinking of You,

And how beautiful You are,

The aroma of Your presence

Is life and love,

And something so perfect,

Words cannot find their way,

But I want it,

That fragrance, of You,

Like a priceless perfume,

A one of a kind,

A sent from heaven kind,

I want.

To be so familiar,

And so consumed,

With You,

To have spent so much time,

In Your presence

That when people get near,

They are left wondering

And wanting more

Of You.

To leave the scent

Of kindness,

And fullness of Joy,

Of grace and mercy

Unconditional love.

The thing is

When I am with You,

The fragrance is

New and beautiful,

And at the same time

Comfortable and known,

I feel like I am finally home,

That I am safe, accepted,

And deeply loved,

And that there is nothing to hide

Your presence changes me.

So that is where I want to stay,

In that place

With You

To steep,

And soak,

Until I am consumed,

And permeated,

All the way through,

With all of You.

The fragrance of Christ in me

The hope of Eternity.

2 Corinthians 2: 14

But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.

2 Corinthians 2: 14

For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 21:6

Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

Psalm 36:8-9

They feast on the abundance of your house;

You give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light.

Acrylic Flower Painting Class

 photo 3

I just finished another class with Fred Lisaius. This time it was using acrylics. We made a diptych using masking techniques. We first painted the background. Then when it dried, we covered in with masking tape. We then drew our design on top, and with an exacto knife cut the shapes out. We then went over it again with different colors. It was so much fun peeling off the tape and seeing what was underneath.

Coffee for Your Heart- I’ve Decided

Tulip garden 2

I’ve Decided

By Susie Teramura

I’ve decided

That indecision

Is not the best

Place to be,

It’s an

On the fence,

Wishy-washy place

Where I find myself often,

In matters from

Where to park and

What toothpaste to buy,

To You,

And whether or not,

You are really good,

And if what You say is true.

I takes time,

And lots of thinking,

To make the decision,

To move,

To decide,

To be all in,

To take the risk,

And let the choice wear my name,

Opening myself

To the chance

Of making a mistake,

To fail.

Tonight, I am thinking,

And wondering,

With You

About this word, fail,

Meaning, “to fall short

Of what’s expected

Or desired,

To become deficient

Or lacking.”

But it’s this definition

That gets me the most:

“To prove of no use,”

Perhaps this is

The core,

Challenging my value,

And evidence that

What I am afraid of

Might be true,

Exposing my heart’s fear.

But then I look at You,

And you show me

A whole different

View.

Through blood, sweat, and tears

You have brought me near,

Not because

I made right choices,

And did right things,

But simple because

I’m yours.

You say,

I am the apple of Your eye,

And Your delight,

And the evidence

Is in the scars,

The carrying of the cross,

And the staying there,

Until it was finished.

Making a way for me,

To be with You forever.

So now I find myself

With another decision

To make,

To stake my life on,

To choose each day,

Am I going to believe

What You say?

Am I all in?

Or Am I choosing

Indecision again?

So today,

I’ve decided,

I’m choosing, You.

Clinging to Your word,

And believing it’s true,

And in the parts

I don’t understand

I will take hold

of your strong hand

And all of You

There I find

You holding me too.

Good-bye indecision,

And fence sitting

too,

I made my choice.

 Jesus, I’m choosing You.

Psalm 119:30

I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws.

Deuteronomy 30:19

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

Joshua 24:15

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Coffee for your Heart- You Meet Me

garden party final cropped

You Meet Me

By Susie Teramura

It happens every night,

Sometime shortly after

Teeth brushing,

And face washing,

A silly game,

She likes to play,

And to

Rally me into,

She calls it, “Cupcake,”

She is

The cupcake,

And I am

The baker,

And the chase begins,

With giggles and shouts,

We chase all over the house,

Ending with a capture,

And pretend icing,

And sprinkles,

And a time to bake,

Until finally,

She is covered

With kisses,

And tucked into bed,

Loved for the night.

But tonight I am tired,

And don’t want to play,

Distracted, weighed down,

But do my best anyway,

When it is over,

And her eyes close to sleep,

Puzzled, I think,

What is it?

About this game,

That is so

Important to her,

What was needed,

To end the day?

My mind spins,

And the list begins:

She needed

To be

Loved, just because,

To be pursed,

Chased after,

To be the object

Of my affection,

To have my eyes

Solely on her,

To see the joy

She brings me,

To know that

I want her,

And that she is

Irresistible,

And loved by me.

And as I am thinking,

And listing,

I find myself

In the same place

Of need,

For these

Same

Things.

And my heart turns

Towards You, my

Perfect Daddy,

I Ask You

To meet me,

And slowly

I begin to see,

You love me,

Just because,

You are pursuing me,

Chasing after me,

With all that you are,

And all that you have,

I am the object,

Of Your affection,

And Your eyes are

Fixed on me.

I bring You joy,

And I am what You want,

I am irresistible.

I will aways and forever

Be loved by You.

And as I let it sink

Peace comes,

Tiptoeing into

My heart

Gently settling in

And I am glad

That tomorrow

She will want to

Play “Cupcake”

Once again.

For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye—

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Llama- Sketchbook Drawing

Llama, bee, peas sketchbook

We just got back from a trip to visit family, and so I spent a lot of time in the car. I really like to draw animals so I decided to sketch a Llama just for fun. I love Llama’s kind eyes. This was done kind of quickly and in the bumpy car, but I decided to share it anyways!

Coffee For your Heart- Oh How You Glow

Oh How You Glow

By Susie Teramura

Dusk sets in

Fire glows,

Laughter and talk

Of burnt marshmallows and

Where the chocolate went,

Yellow orange moon,

Rises over the

Quiet lake

Making reflections

Of itself

The little ones

Chase fireflies

And capture them

In jars,

To glow.

And I think of You

And how You

Glow.

Your beauty

And Your good ideas

Showing up all over,

Making a moon, so

We won’t be left

In the dark,

Placing us

In families,

So we won’t be left

Alone,

And so we can find

Our way,

It was Your idea,

All You,

To make bugs,

That light up

Trees like Christmas morning,

Just to hear

Your little ones,

Joy.

It was You who

Fashioned strawberries

So sweet and beautiful

For us to

Make into pie,

To share,

To multiply,

Your blessings,

Over the top goodness ,

Pouring out

And over

All of us,

Over and

Over again,

Filling us up,

Filling me up,

And leaving me,

Craving more of You.

Psalm 34:8
