Coffee for Your Heart- Graduation Day

Graduation Day

By Susie Teramura

There she stands

White cap and gown

Tassel swings 2015

Back and forth

Eyes sparkling,

Brown hair pushed

To the side,

Ready to receive

Her diploma,

And all the promise

That it holds,

And all that

You hold for her.

It’s time to celebrate,

To reflect, and count,

Your faithfulness in years,

And in papers, tests,

And quizzes,

In soccer tournaments, church trips,

And in friendships,

Lost and won,

Your faithfulness 17 years long,

Bringing us to this place,

This marker,

This end,

And its new beginning.

Making her way to the stage,

My eyes puddle up,

By her beauty,

And grace,

And at the story You

Are writing on her life.

For the privilege

Of being a part of

The beginning pages.

This precious one,

Entrusted to us,

To care for,

Every wrinkle

and crevice,

To wash her little feet,

And the ketchup

Off her cheeks.

To dry her tears,

And wrap her

Boo boos in love,

And princess Band-Aids,

To have been there

For the firsts,

And the lasts.

And I stand there

Holding back the tears,

The deluge that wants to come,

At the thought

Of letting go

And all that it means,

But then

You bring this to mind,

“It’s time,

She’s ready,

And she’s Mine.

Like a flower in bloom,

It’s her time

To shine

To be my fragrance to a world

That so desperately needs it.

It’s time to share

Me through her

Out there.

I will be with her

Helping her grow

I will care for her

It’s time

To let go.”

My eyes pool as

Her name is read loud

Filling the auditorium

With cheers and shouts

She steps into the light

Beaming with joy,

A new chapter begins,

Tears and blessings

continue to flow

hope cracks open

And rises slow

Forever and from the start,

she has always

and will always

have my heart .

 2 Corinthians 2:15

For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

2 Corinthians 2:14 (msg)

In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance. Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God, which is recognized by those on the way of salvation—an aroma redolent with life

Jeremiah 29:11 (msg.)

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

  1. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, — that’s all I can say with MY eyes puddling — and you remember that is the verse for the quilt I made for her — time moves along so quickly – treasure each moment of the journey even the hard places

  2. Susie,
I had to sneak over to your Facebook page to look at the photos of your beautiful daughter (and your entire beautiful family)! As your daughter starts a new chapter of her life it’s so exciting for her but even more wonderful for her is knowing that her mom is behind her all the way, proud of her and hopeful for all that’s in store for her future. Those scripture verses you included are some of the most insightful for a dear daughter stepping into her future — celebrating along with you! 🙂 Thanks for sharing it with us with your gorgeous words!

    1. Oh I am so glad you did! I thought about posting her picture- she is so dear to me- and like last year with my son it is such a happy sad time- I thought about your post today and how it was the “second time around” for us the year. It was easier and harder too?! 🙂 😦 Thankful that God walks with us through it all no matter how many times we go through it. Thank you so much for reading and being here with me today. It has meant so much to me! with much love and admiration
