Heirloom Garden- Orchids

Heirloom Gardens lesson one Orchid

I am really excited to be taking another class called Heirloom Gardens by Val Webb. (http://www.valwebb.com) It is my first color pencil class ever, yet I have been using them for years and really love them. I am excited to learn real techniques and how to use them well, since up until now I have only experimented on my own. Val also is teaching us a little about the actual flower. I had no idea how long orchids have been around and how coveted the vanilla orchid was! I am quite behind in the class (as usual- probably because I am trying to do too many classes at once πŸ˜‰ Β ) – This first assignment was to do a preliminary sketch and then draw another one and color it in using only umber and cream- the result was to look like an old-fashioned sepia print- I am thinking I need to try again on this- Colored pencils are wonderful but do take more time than watercolor. The next lesson is pumpkins- feels kinda fall-ish but pumpkins are definitely happy.

  1. Val Webb is a wonderful artist and an awesome teacher! I have taken several classes from her. I am currently finishing her, Birds -Watercolor and Beyond and I’m in the middle of Fairies 2. Look forward to seeing your artwork from her class! 😊
