Coffee for Your Heart- I am For You

girl reading

I am For You

By Susie Teramura

Rough day,

Or couple of days,

With my little one

Always testing

And wanting her own way

Pushing

And crossing lines

Just to see…

My last straw

Finds me thinking

If she only knew I

Am for her,

Not against.

That I am thinking

Of her.

Saving her,

From bumps and bruises,

From things

She will regret.

How much easier

Would my job be,

If she operated

From that premise,

If she really

Understood,

That I am

On her side.

Then I got to thinking,

I have heard

That before,

Just this morning,

Singing it at church,

You are for me,

Not against,

And I

Let

It

Sink

In

You are on my side,

And the plans

You have

For me,

And all

That you do,

Is from

A position

Of protection

And love.

That you want to

Save me

Over and over again,

You never tire of it,

Saving me once more,

From heartache,

And sick- living,

From the fears

That chain me up.

You are never wrong

And will never lead me

In paths where you haven’t

Been first

If only I could make it stick

That thought

“You are for me,”

Then trust

Would come easier,

And I could be brave,

And walk

Out on limbs,

Scale walls.

And climb

The heights,

Free,

Finding You there

Again.

Thoughts wander back

To the little one

An arm’s length away.

Putting my hand on her

Crazy, out of place, hair

Gently, directing her eyes

Towards mine

I speak,

Wishing only

My words

Would somehow

Enter there and

Sink,

Laying down

A foundation

Permanent,

In her heart.

“I am for you,

Precious daughter of mine

I want the best for you

And I am always

And forever

On your side.”

And then

It happens,

You, Father

Enter in there

And lay those same words

On my heart

Strong and lasting,

Like cement to build on,

And while it’s still wet,

And setting up ,

You take your finger

And carve a big heart

And put our initials in it.

Yours and mine

Stuck there for good

in the basement

Of my heart

Romans 8:31

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

  1. Susie,
What a beautiful picture you paint with your experience with your daughter and our experiences as daughters of God! Sometimes it takes awhile for us to truly believe that he is for us and wants the best for us when times get difficult but when we finally believe this truth in our hearts, I think it’s life-changing!

    1. Hi Valerie- Yes it is! Hard for me sometimes to trust Him and I think sometimes this is the crux of it? Learning to take God at His word and believe that he is good and wants to best for me, and for us all- Living in the truth of this does change everything! Thanks Valerie!

  2. Hi Jennifer- It is amazing the way children are able to do that- you are right! So thankful for the living examples they give me each day of how to live in relationship with Jesus! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  3. Beautiful words & so very true! I think of the verse from Luke 11:13, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” He truly wants the very best for his beloved children!
    Blessings,

  4. Such good words from a mumma’s heart. It will be super gratifying one day when your little dear turns to you and says words that reveal to you that she gets it now — it may be years but trusting for that moment will make today sweeter.

  5. Susie, I am so thankful that you came by tonight for your visit brought me here. This is so beautiful and the Truth of our LORD. He is always there for us and wants the best, just as a parent wants that for the child.
