Coffee for Your Heart- Bedtime

LAC Unit 3- Italian Countryside-1

By Susie Teramura

I am sitting here

And she is stalling again,

Talking about mosquito bites

And puss,

And what it’s made out of

And every question she can come up with,

To keep me talking

To keep me connected

To keep the conversation going

Her eyes are tired,

And her body wiggly

And once again,

A cup of water,

One more hug,

The fight to stay awake

To not miss one bit

Of life and all that might

Go on while she sleeps.

And I think ,

And talk with You

About that- about life,

And why as the years pile up

The living seems stale

And the resting from it

Is what I long for,

And sadness crawls in,

As I know it shouldn’t

Be this way.

That you gave me life

And breath today

Each day, a gift from you.

Each day has a treasure

All its own,

An opportunity

To know you in it

And so the hunger

Begins to stir

Father, how desperately

I want You,

All of You,

And all the life,

Each day connected

To You, Father

Abiding in the vine,

Bearing fruit juicy,

Satisfying to the soul,

Oh how I want that ,

And how I want

To be with You

In this mess of a life

Experiencing more of

You in it.

You are the one who

Awakens my soul,

That quenches my thirst,

The one who gives me rest,

A different kind of rest

One that I am really craving,

From the striving,

From the working

To be perfect

And having things

Turn out all right

Because in You everything is

All- right.

Sins erased,

We are connected

And so I don’t have to

Keep the conversation going

To know you are here,

The quiet holds you too

And she finally gives in

With one last sigh and

A “mommy I love you,”

Rest enters this room.

We are loved,

And cared for,

And seen forever,

And it’s from this place,

Safe and free

You breathe Your

Beautiful life into me.

John 15:9

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

John 15:6

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last..”

Isaiah 25:9

In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

Psalm 118:5-6

“When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;

he brought me into a spacious place.

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.”

Acts 2:28

“You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”

Things That Last

By Susie Teramura

Lately it seems,

I am tired most

Of the time.

Days cycle like

The laundry and dishes,

Never ending,

And sometimes

The in monotony of it,

I almost

Miss the joy.

The socks dirtied by fun,

Rolled up

On the floor,

Carried by the dog, again,

Out the door.

Now lying in the grass,

Welcome all

Who enter here to

Our sacred home,

Where life is happening.

And I breathe deep,

And realize,

And let it sink in,

That this life is You,

And Your gift to me.

Where things are

Tidy and perfect,

And neat as a pin,

Not much life is getting in.

So I rest in the chaos of it,

All the stuff,

And the thoughts,

And problems that circle

Heavy around my heart,

And go back

To the beginning,

And to where

Things start.

When I am tired and,

At my end

That is where

You take over

And life can begin,

And where I hear Your

Heart beating for me,

And see Your love

Lavished on my family.

So I will depend

On you this day,

To hold me up,

And lead the way,

And when I see

That sock

Out in the grass,

I will remember

“This too shall pass,”

And that in these trials

You are building things

That last.

James 1:2-3

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

1 Peter 1:6-7

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Here is my finished giraffe-She was made by wire, wrapped with fabric and yarn.  You can see the beginnings of an elephant I am working on too- They start out just wire that I twist into the shape I am hoping to make- I hope I can finish the elephant for next week too!

Home with You

By Susie Teramura

It’s Spring Break,

 My boy

Is home and the

House is full,

My heart is

Full too.

But soon enough

He is off again towards

All you have planned

For him,

And I look at my others,

Born in Your heart but

Now somehow

Rooted into mine,

And I know deep inside,

They will follow him

Out that door and

Onto more of You,

And so the happy and sad slide down

Into the deeper parts.

I will forever be

Attached to these

My favorites

In all the world.

Bringing this raw

To You

For help and

For thoughts

I am seeing, hearing

And knowing,

That it is in the going

That we grow,

It is in the trusting,

That we find ourselves

Nearest to Your heart,

Where we can hear

You breathing,

And feel Your skin

Wrapped around us,

And that these precious ones

And I have something

In common,

We each are on a road

Toward more,

More of

And that’s where it’s at

Being with You,

That’s where the party is,

The life,

And rest,

You are

Our food and drink,

Our every satisfaction,

Our everything,

So though our roads

Look different,

We are all

Headed home,

To You.

You are

And so as his car

Rolls out of sight,

And I head back inside to face

What’s left to do,

I hear you talking

To my soul

Of your deep love,

For me

And for my boy

And my sweet girls,

Still here,

Quietly, I feel your hand wrap

Around mine.

It’s going to be ok

We will be home

With You

John 14:1-4

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

Isaiah 46:4

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Year of the Spark- Wire Wrapped Bunny

photo 1 photo 2

This week our assignment (in my class- The Year of the Spark with Carla Sonhiem and Lynn Whipple) was very different and a lot of fun! We were to make an animal shape using wire from Home Depot. Then we wrapped the wire with strips of fabric and yarn and embellished our animals however we wanted. I came up with this bunny.(She has a bow on her ear-hard to tell in this picture) It was really fun. I am also in the process of making a giraffe now, and hope I can post that next week. (Sorry these pictures aren’t too great- but wanted to share anyway!)

Come as You Are

By Susie Teramura

I want my words

To dance across

The page

Like a song

Forgetting all,

Just pure

Love spilled out,

And like steps,

To string them

Until they lead

Me to joy and

To a place where

All I can hear

Is the music

Of your sweet love,

Playing loud

Over me.

I want my words

To dance across

The page

As is,

Because that‘s

What you want,

As is,

You say, ”Come as you are

Not as you wish you were,

Our how you think you should be,

Just come,

Come as you are.”

And as this settles in

And finds it way

Around my heart,

I feel my load lightened,

My burden lifted,

My sadness begins to go,

As I let myself believe

You love me so.

So I will let my words

Dance across

The page

No longer scared,

Knowing You are

The one

I will find

Waiting there.

Psalm 42:8

“But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.”

Psalm 45:1

“Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.”

“I will rebuild you….. You will again be happy and dance.”
