 My Heart’s Home

By Susie Teramura

Driving home from church today

Thinking about the sermon,

The topic – prayer,

And words,

And how time in prayer

Is where it’s at-

And I’m thinking about

That word, prayer

And what it means,

Putting it in my own words
trying to own it,

Make it mine.

Prayer, A time to talk

With You,

Father of Lights,

Creator of atoms and cells,

Sweet smelling flowers, ladybugs

And the Milky Way,

Lover of all mankind,

Every nation, every tribe,

Lover of every soul,

Lover of me.

It’s time to

Connect with You

To share,

To wrap words

Around my heart

And gift them to you,

And wait,

For Your response,

To hear Your thoughts,

To still myself

In Your presence.

I’m starting to see,

That this

Exchange of words,

This face-to-face time,

It’s less about

Results and answers

And more about

Us

Our relationship,

Our special, like no one else’s

Relationship.

It’s in this a space

Where my love

For You grows

Where I am fully known

And I am knowing

You,

Kind, good,

Full of compassion

And strength,

You,

It’s  where my ears

Open to Your thoughts

So I can be taught,

And counseled,

And comforted,

 Cared for

Inside out.

Prayer-

An open invitation.

An always-standing offer to

Be with you.

Pulling in

The driveway-

My thoughts settle,

My heart has

Found its way home

To You.

Isaiah 58-9

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;

you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

Psalm 42:8

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalm 88:13

But I cry to you for help, Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you.

  1. Hi Susie,
This lesson of relationship is exactly what God is showing me lately too! I am growing a little weary of praying for a request, yet I realized in the wearying that what I miss most is the act of bringing the request before him not the actual request, whether he says yes or not. This relationship with him is such a mystery but such an adventure, isn’t it? Love the post!

  2. Hi Susie, I love how you’ve unwrapped the fundamentals of prayer as relationship. These words stood out for me as I try to rest more in God this year and listen to His voice:
    “And wait,
    For Your response,
    To hear Your thoughts,
    To still myself
    In Your presence.”
Beautiful and needful thoughts. Thank you! Blessed by my visit. 🙂
