Coffee for your Heart- Great and Marvelous

Coffee for your Heart- Great and Marvelous

By Susie

Bent and frail she sits

Alone unseen

On the bus stop bench

Hair, dirty grey

Large pink glasses sliding down

A worn face

She catches

My eye

And from some other place

Making room

In my busy mind

I hear the words

We sang at church

Sunday morning

“Great and marvelous, are Your works Oh Lord ”

I stop, and slow,

And think,

“She is Your work Lord….. and

Great and marvelous is she.”

Endless wait

I hand her my card

To pay

Her short hair

Framing an angry

Eyes tired

Barely look at me

Arms tattooed

And bracelet beaded with obscenities

I take my frozen lemonade.

The anthem interrupts

My unkind thoughts again,

Your love singing over her,

“Great and marvelous, are Your works Oh Lord”

I whisper,

“She is Your work, Lord and

Great and marvelous is she.”

Home to face

A little one

Wants her way

Arms folded

Her purple

And sours her face

At me

And there it is again,

Like a breeze blowing

Through my mind

Shifting thoughts

Changing attitudes

Softening my heart

The chorus coming again

“Great and marvelous, are Your works Oh Lord!”

This time

I speak it

to my soul

“She is Your work Lord,

Great and marvelous is she.”

Heading up to bed

I catch my reflection

In the mirror

The wrinkles carve

Tired places

In my face

Red Hair frizzing

Out of place

Shoulders heave

An end of the day sigh,

And once more

The song

Catches me by

Soft and sweet,

“Great and marvelous, are Your works Oh Lord”

Staring at myself,

It’s hard this time

I wipe a slow tear

And whisper

Quiet, to my heart,

“She is Your work Lord and,

Great and marvelous is she.”

I melt in a puddle.

Your love pouring out

All over me.

“Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty.”

(Here is the song -!)

Coffee for Your Heart- Your Words are Like Honey

Coffee for your Heart- Your Words are Like Honey

 By Susie

Your words

 Are like honey

 sticky and sweet,

 They cover me-

 They stick

 on me

 Your kindness,

 Your love,

 Poured out

 Slow and sweet,

 Dripping golden

 Catching light

 Filling cracks

Making me

 Your words

 Are like honey

 They cover me.

Psalm 119:103

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.

Coffee for Your Heart- Weeds

Coffee for Your Heart-Weeds

 By Susie

I sat and wondered…

Fingers drumming the table

Is it enough?

Am I enough?

I am not like her…

I don’t do it that way…

And slowly but surely

Thought by thought

I start digging my pit

And slower still

I begin to sink

Comparison stealing my day

Choking the breath right out of me

Until I believe the lie

It seems so true

Lies usually do

Twisting their way around my heart

Like weeds, crowding out truth,

Crowding out You-

Then comes my savior

Riding in to rescue

Waving his banner of truth

Right over my head-

It says

She is mine

My beloved

My very own

Like a kite in the wind

Truth starts to soar

And these chains broken

Can hold me no more

I am free and loved

Just as I am-

Chosen, wanted and

Picked out by You

Though by thought

Weeds replaced

With truth

I stop the drumming

And get up to go,

I am enough

Simply because You say so!

Psalm 25:5

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Little Red Riding Hood -Grandma’s house

Little Red Riding Hood

This was another try at the technique Carla showed us, however we used white acrylic paint under the oils pastels and then we scratched in texture and patterns. I enjoyed the scratching part! 🙂

Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood

This months fairytale is Little Red Riding Hood. This assignment was to create a mixed media illustration using oil pastels and masking tape. We were to use masking tape to make the shape of a wolf and then fill it in with smeared oil pastels. When you peel off the tape it gives an interesting effect. Although It was messy, it was fun to try, and definitely gave a different effect to the illustration.

Coffee for your Heart- Tears

Coffee for your Heart-Tears

By Susie

Sliding down

Making puddles

Beside my

Salty drops find their way

From my heart to

The ground

Making mud

Making messes

You say

I am

My broken pieces

Surrendered and poured out

In a million places.

Then you do

Your thing,

Your miracle thing,

You take,

My empty,

My ashes,

And bring beauty

And in your hands,

 my dead

turns into life

And I find

Crazy Joy

Growing right up inside

My heart

Big and colorful until

It’s spilling out of me

Tears of joy.

Psalm 126: 5

Those who sow tears shall reap joy.

Isaiah 61:3

To all who mourn in Israel he will give: beauty for ashes;joy instead of mourning; praise instead of heaviness.
